Why We Blog

The "WE" in that question is referring to the Maine Women's Fund and the community of grantees, donors, staff and board members, and everyone else who defines its focus and course.

We blog to gain perspective -- use stories, experiences, and worldviews to help us shape the direction and future of the Fund. We know the statistics. We know that 77% of Maine families living in poverty are headed by single moms. We know that domestic violence accounts for 50% of Maine homicide cases. We know that Maine women earn $.77 for every dollar a man earns.

How we deal with these statistics is where your perspective matters.

I was hired by the Board of the Maine Women's Fund a few months ago to grow the organization - to grow its scope of operations and its grantmaking, as well as expand the community participation required to make that growth a reality.

A very smart woman told me that the answers to our tough problems are known, we must simply find a way of tapping into that knowledge and to create the will to act upon it. The "Dialogue Project" is our effort to do just that. Through the Dialogue Project, you will meet with community leaders, donors, business leaders, women in crisis and women in positions of power. They will share those stories here. We invite you to talk about these important issues -- how do we define feminism, what is required to find economic security, how do we eliminate violence against women?  Please share your ideas by commenting. What we offer as a Fund will only be as good as what you offer as solutions.
